My “Fourth Week of #WakeUpWinter” focus challenge is to move and stretch daily. The goal is to integrate more small bursts of activity into the day, including taking a few minutes in the morning and before bed to unwind and recharge.
Here are my picks as well as some awesome suggestions from my friend Erica G. for great (& free!) fitness apps and YouTube channels that help motivate us. There are tons more out there but these can help get us started! If you’ve got others you love, comment below and share your favorites.
- Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout App – NO EQUIPMENT NEEDED
This is app is awesome. You can select workouts based on your fitness level and tailor to your timing (there are 7 minute workouts but also longer options such as 20 or 30 minutes). You are guided through each move with an animated trainer demoing all the moves and a timer that keeps you on track. Options to track progress and customize your workout make the experience personal and fun. There’s even an option to connect with your iTunes library. Some moves use a basic chair, but otherwise moves are conveniently equipment-free. Currently this is my top pick of free workout apps for at-home workouts.
- Sworkit Lite Workout App – NO EQUIPMENT NEEDED
I haven’t tried Sworkit Let yet but I downloaded it earlier today because it looks promising and appealing. I like the organization of the types of workouts and ability to select modules based on my time. Also offers spoken guidance with short video sequences of a trainer demoing each move. Includes modules for strength, cardio, yoga, and stretching.
- Nike+ Training Club App- USES EQUIPMENT (Popular pick by Erica and others!)
NTC offers a robust library of guided workouts that make a great companion at the gym or at home if you’ve got some equipment including some free weights. This is a favorite among many of my friends.
- Yoga on YouTube: Tara Stiles Yoga Channel – NO EQUIPMENT NEEDED
I love Tara Stiles’ “yoga for everyone” attitude: inclusive, casual, upbeat, and calm. She’s a go-to for me when I’m looking for a yoga sequence that fits the moment on YouTube (such as morning for energy, wind-down before bed, etc.)
- Yoga on YouTube (Erica’s Pick!): Yoga with Adriene Channel – NO EQUIPMENT NEEDED
I haven’t tried Yoga with Adriene just yet but I definitely will after Erica’s recommendation. I’m excited to try out her 30-day video series on the channel.
- Pilates on YouTube (Erica’s Pick!): Blogilates Channel – NO EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Thanks Erica for this rec as well! I’ve heard of Blogilates but haven’t looked into it much until today. Pilates workouts can really help with core strength, and stability and it looks like this channel has some great content!
- More fitness on YouTube: LivestrongWomen YouTube Channel – NO EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Recently discovered this one and earmarked to try. Lots of variety of workout types and trainers involved.
